I DID IT!

Yesterday I run 5000 meter for the very first time without any stop . The result was dissapointing, but it left me enough chances to improve myself quickly: 33 minutes and 32 seconds.

Queen's Day Netherlands

Koninginnedag or Queen's Day is a national holiday in the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, and Aruba on 30 April or on 29 April if the 30th is a Sunday. Queen's Day celebrates the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and "togetherness". The tradition started on 31 August 1885, on the birthday of Princess Wilhelmina, later Queen Wilhelmina. Since 1949, after the ascension of Queen Juliana, Queen's Day is Queen Juliana's birthday on 30 April. Although Queen Beatrix's birthday is on 31 January, she officially celebrates her birthday on 30 April.

Sneakers by Johan Cruijff

The invention of Total Fútbol, led by Johan Cruyff during the World Championship of 1974, set the world on fire. They played football in a way we hadn’t seen before, with skill, strength, intelligence and attitude merged together into a mixture that was uniquely theirs. The same Johan Cruyff branded his name on some sneakers for some years now. Must haves! I got 3 pair already and by the end of this year I maybe doubled this figure. (If the wife is not looking...)

Soccer stars who did made a difference

Romario de Souza Faria - Brazil
Should I mention the fact that he scored 1,000 goals throughout his 23 year career? Or should I go on about how he took Brazil to a splendid World Cup win in 1994?

Hugo Sanchez Marquez - Mexico
Mexico produced some quality soccer players throughout time, but none of them were as successful and revered as Sanchez, the striker who is rightfully considered the most important person in the history of Mexican soccer.

Roy Maurice Keane - Ireland
For Ireland, Roy Keane is what Eusebio is for Portugal, Hagi for Romania or Beckenbauer for Germany: a legendary player for whom there is no second thought regarding whether or not he is or isn't the best all time player of that country. But it's really hard to say who loves Roy Keane more: Ireland fans or Manchester United fans.

Eric Daniel Pierre Cantona - France
One person seeing Eric Cantona play in a match will define him as charismatic, while a different supporter from an opposing stand will define him as a madman. The truth is that Cantona was a little bit of everything and his "madness" combined with his charm and of course, his impressive playing ability earned him a legendary status wherever he played.

1982 World Cup incident, Patrick Batiston

Patrick Battiston is remembered for the 1982 FIFA World Cup semi final in Seville, when France faced West Germany. He came off the bench in the second half, and after ten minutes of play, following a through ball by Platini, Battiston was clear through the German defence racing towards goal. The German goalkeeper, Harald Schumacher, raced towards Battiston as the Frenchman took the shot, missing the goal. Schumacher leapt into the air, twisting his body and colliding with Battiston. In the process Schumacher's hip hit the Frenchman's face. Battiston, clattered, fell to the ground unconscious, with damaged vertebrae and teeth knocked out, later slipping into a coma. Emergency medics had to administer oxygen on the pitch. Michel Platini later said that he thought that Battiston was dead, because "he had no pulse and looked pale.

Miracle on Ice

The "Miracle on Ice" was a medal-round men's ice hockey game during the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York, on February 22. The United States team, made up of amateur and collegiate players and led by coach Herb Brooks, defeated the Soviet team, which was considered the best hockey team in the world. True legend moment. I think Dutch people can not understand what this win have ment for the USA. It must have felt as a Holland World Cup last minute final win........against Germany. Multiplied by 10.
Maybe, July 11th, South Africa 2010. Another legend moment?
